Why students prefer going to university than Polytechnics

Most students finds it difficult to differentiate between university and polythenic although arguments arose when ever you tends to tell a polythenic student that the university is better than the Polytechnic.

The difference between university and polythenic is widely known also with the difference between Bs.c and HND.

Even though it is believed that most people have a chance to be successful no matter the level of education you have attained. But there are some part that should be emphasized not because of hate or trying to criticise one another.

So here are some reason why most student prefer Universities to Polytechnics

1. the qualifications for entrance into the University: the qualifications of entrance to university is far more difficult to compare to that of polythenic. Although Jamb pegs cut-off mark at 120 for university, this does not mean a candidate with such a result would be offered admission into any university In Nigeria. While that of polythenic is usually peg at 100

2. Quality of students: Universities tends to admit student which tend to be more intelligent, mind you this is based on the candidates overall performance. So more often than not you may not be able to compare a candidate from the University to that of a polythenic.

3. Funding from government: University tend to receive more funds from government than the Polytechnic hence their reason for good structure and large platform for research works. Government usually attends to the needs of ASUU than ASUP and lastly university lecturer are well paid

4. Beautiful and large campus: Universities usually have the best campuses in Nigeria and are well equipped in terms of library and other equipment

5. Scholarship preference: Trusted companies usually prefer Universities student than Polytechnic because they believe the universities have brains in the school and I support that fact strongly.

6. Markets demand: University's certificate 'Bs.c'  is usually preferred in companie to that of a polythenic HND this is due to qualifications in entering university and the quality of lectures they tends to get

7. Self esteem: Polytechnics students have low self esteem compare to that of a university student, they are usually bold because of the fact that they are holding a Bs.c.

8. Research works: University usually do a lot of research work in term of learning but there is no comparison in terms of practical works, Polytechnic student has always recorded the best in this aspect

9. Quality of lecturers: You cannot just compare the experience and expertise of lecturers they have in a university setting to that of the polytechnic. Most university lecturers are professors and PhD holders with years of teaching coupled with experience to show for it. In fact, most Master degree holders in some universities are mere assistant lecturers.This is not so for our polytechnics where most of their lecturers are mere BSc holders who are university graduates. Most rectors of polytechnics are Msc holders, though not all, only a few are PhD holders. At times, even corps members lecture in some polytechnics

10. Degree: This is the most important reason why universities is usually the best in Nigeria. Universities usually gives out Bs.c and this results is widely accepted in the world and it is prefered in industry and company so a university student would get job more easily than Polytechnics
