The panel set up by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu in May to audit the take-off grants of the new Federal Universities has submitted its reports about 12 new universities in the country.
The 12 federal universities were established during the administration of the former, president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2015, Jonathan boasted about the establishment of the Universities in 2015 saying “I set up 12 universities in the remaining 12 states where there are no universities and came up with schools for the Almajiri and out of school children.''

However, panel reports about the institutions indicate that all is not well yet in the newly established universities and it is advisable for admission seekers to be wary of such institutions at least for now.

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations is upcoming and based on the report of the panel, these 12 universities shouldn't for any reason be any admission seekers first choice.

The reports say that:
1. These universities still have issues with students’ accommodation and accreditation of courses.

2. The 12 federal universities spread across the six geo-political zones have just 3,756 lecturers.

3. 32% percent of the lecturers in these 12 universities have PhD.

The last point shows that these universities are in dearth of academic staff and as such can not meet the academic needs of the prospective applicants.

Moreover, as parts of the National University Commission's recommendations for accreditation of courses, a university department is expected to have at least three professors before its course can be accredited. And based on the panel reports, these universities have not got enough professors to meet NUC standard.
