Central admission processing system
As we all know the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) organized an intensive Teaching and Sensitisation Forum on Admission Processing System today 09/21/2017. Below is a quick Review:
The Jamb Registrar Prof. Ishaq Olarewaju Oloyede disclosed that JAMB is a ranking body not an examination body like Waec, Neco, Nabteb among others.
Qualifying requirement:
Before a candidate can be recommended for admission that person must have his or her O'level Result with a minimum of 5 credit load irrespective of Jamb score.
Note: All candidates are expected to re-upload their O'level Result to Jamb's portal.
Roles of Jamb:
*Conducts Matriculation
*Forward result to institutions
*Ensure all candidates are treated fairly and
*ensure that Universities comply with the rules they had advertised for their admission processing.
What is Cut off Mark:
It is a threshold below which no institution can admit a candidates. This makes candidates eligible for a particular institution
Note: Scores higher than the Cut off Mark do not guarantee Admission
Determination of institution cut off mark:
Institutions determines not only the general admission cut-off mark for the institution but also they are to determine the program cut off point.
Acceptance and rejection:
All candidates registered under CAPS can accept or reject Admission offered to them by a particular institution, in the sense that any candidate whom course is changed will be notified & such candidate have the right to either accept or reject the Admission within a time frame of 2-3 days. If the Admission is rejected the student will be placed in the market place.

- O'Level Grade and
- Other requirement provided by the universities
Benefits of CAPS:
- Candidates become aware of available spaces in Universities and Universities are aware of available students.
- O' level Examination bodies such as WAEC, NECO AND NABTEB are to submit their result to Jamb, therefore Jamb becomes a verification body for O' level results.
- Candidates are able to accept or reject admission when not given their preferred choice and Jamb is to send those student to the market place where other institutions can go to offer admission to candidates of their choice.
Students are to Note the following:
- UTME score is just one factor out of many.
- JAMB 2017 cut off mark is 120 for Universities and 100 for Polytechnics and Colleges of education
- JAMB score must constitute 50% of any institution whatsoever cut off mark.
- A high score in Jamb does not guarantee you admission into any Tertiary institution
The following questions was asked by student which was then answered by the Jamb Registrar:
Ques: My name is not reflecting on the institution portal after change of course
Ans: The jamb registration explained saying that the fault is from the university that did not successfully download the names of current candidates on their portal.
Ques: What is the period of Accepting or Rejecting Admission?
Ans: 3 days.
Ques: Do candidates have access to CAPS?
Ans: yes provided they have their Jamb reg. Number
Ques: when will the change of course expire?
Ans: This will be determined by the university, depending on when their admission portal is closed, therefore student are advised to visit their school website.

Ans: www.caps.jamb.org.ng

What is the consequences of pressing the accept with out being admitted?
ReplyDeleteThe system is still very new but if a student see's admitted and then requested to accept or Reject without the school officially releasing its admission list, then the school should have sent the list of admitted student to jamb for upload
